Abstract:
The Qur'an, which highlights love and mercy between husband and wife as one of the divine signs,
guides husband and wife for reconciliation also if conflicts occur between them as human beings.
However, since these guidelines are not fully adhered by the Muslim community in Sri Lanka, divorce
ratio is increasing. Therefore, this study aims to review the Qur'anic approaches in providing solutions
to disputes between husbands and wives. This review, based on secondary data, analyzes the teachings
of the Prophet (PBUH) and the opinions of the Islamic jurists regarding the family disputes. Finally,
this study clarifies the guidelines for resolving disputes within the family by implementing the
approaches of the Qur'an step by step to resolve disputes between husband and wife. This study
anticipates that when the Quranic approaches to dispute resolution are implemented in the community,
the number of divorces can be reduced.
