Abstract:
In several parts of the world, interest in entrepreneurship is intense. Entrepreneurial
operation (new company formation) is a means of revitalizing the economy for developing
economies, a way to cope with the problems of unemployment, a possible trigger and
incubator for technical change, product and business innovation. Entrepreneurship is seen
as an engine of economic progress, job creation and social adjustment for the economies
of developing countries.
The objective of this study is to investigate the Influence of Entrepreneurial Traits on
Entrepreneurial Inclination among Youths in the Rathnapura District. The study variables
consist of both dependent variables with need for achievement, locus of control, propensity
to take risk, tolerance for ambiguity being the independent variable and Entrepreneurial
Inclination being the dependent variable. Data were collected from 150 youths in the
Rathnapura district by using the convenience sampling method. And a questionnaire is
designed using Five Point Likert Scales.
For this research, frequency analysis, descriptive analysis, correlation analysis and simple
regression analysis under univariate analysis and multiple regression analysis has been
conducted. According to descriptive analysis, level of entrepreneurial traits and
entrepreneurial inclination are high level among youths in the Rathnapura district. Based
on result of the correlation analysis, there is strong positive relationship between variables
and as per the regression analysis, there is a highly significant influence of entrepreneurial
traits on entrepreneurial inclination among youths in the Rathnapura district. .
This study provided insight into entrepreneurship education, which can be built to raise
good entrepreneurs with entrepreneurial characteristics. And in order to foster an
entrepreneurial culture, educational programs need to be geared to emphasize the
importance of entrepreneurship. Methods for teaching entrepreneurship should be further
discussed as well. This research will help to fill the gap in the established body of
knowledge and to provide fresh knowledge in the sense of Sri Lanka.
